Description
Yangtze Service Medal is presented to US Marines. Established in 1930, the Marine Corps edition of the Yangtze Service Medal recognized U.S. Marine Corps members who served between September 3, 1926 and October 21, 1927 or between March 1, 1930 and December 31, 1932 in China’s Yangtze River Valley. Personnel who served with a landing force in Shanghai during these operations were also eligible for the medal. The award was limited to one award per individual and was discontinued in 1940 with the advent of the China Service Medal.
The Yangtze Service Medal is a bronze medallion features a Chinese junk asail. The inscription above the ship reads “YANGTZE SERVICE.” The reverse side depicts a left-facing eagle perched on an anchor, and text reads “UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS” and “FOR SERVICE.” The ribbon is dark blue with two sets of red and gold stripes.
